Well, that civilian has every right to own a gun (for some reason) and everybody has the right to own a gun in order to defend themselves from that civilian.

We need to have enough stopping power to take on the government, if it should come to that.

Don't you fear that your government might try to abuse their power?

FYI, in the Western world, being afraid of your government is a phenomenon that seems to be unique to the United States. Being afraid of the Canadian government would be outright laughable. Perturbed and annoyed? Sure. But thinking they will come for me in the night? If that's really what it's like in the US, then either 1) exercise your democratic rights to elect a government you can feel safe with, or 2) if #1 isn't an option, FIX YOUR SYSTEM so there are better options you can trust. The United States is supposed to be the shining beacon of democracy, so use it!

P.S. I do recognize that your post is probably satirical, but there do seem to be a lot of US citizens with a high degree of suspicion for their government, which I just can't understand.

Really, it defines the republican party and the conservative movement. I think being skeptical is warranted but the anger and blaming everything on it is something that does seem to be very American.

It has also gotten worse as time has progressed and to a virulent degree that is scary.

My based on little hypothesis is that the US just has a large number of people that just flat out do not like being told what to do by anybody. They tend to project that on the federal government but it is really any government they disagree with. So, it is policy preference turned anti-government that enforces the rules as laid out.
