Thanks \:\)

It's not his fault, though.

Christians are taught to view the whole bible as one book written by many authors, rather than MANY books written by authors centuries apart, who had different views on god, messiahs, the laws of Moses, etc.

In trying to conflate all these stories (OT and NT) into one 'seamless' narrative, Christians have had to shift goalposts and try to alter the meanings of texts.

The messiah figure is a good example. All the Jewish texts portray the messiah as I describe above. A powerful man, and an out-and-out winner. In order for Christians to say that Jesus was the messiah as prophesised in the OT, they have to find passages that reference someone who suffers, even though those passages never mention the messiah (in fact, are diametrically opposed to the Jewish view of the messiah), and then they say 'See...that was him. That's a messianic prophecy about Jesus'.

And they're clearly not.

The church, for obvious reasons, doesn't teach it's congregations how to seriously analyse the texts. It just says 'Accept what WE tell you. And if you have FAITH...then you'll never need proof'.

So I don't blame Jesusfan - nor any 'ordinary' Christian - for not really understanding the bible. I blame their teachers.

The Jewish Prophets saw the Messiah at His first and second comings, but placed those events as being at the same time.

Isaiah described the suffering Messiah of the Lord who would die for the sins of His people in Chapter 53, and that theme is throughout the OT, as God would send His Messiah first as the savior, and then at His second coming as that warrior King you described!
