For the most part it's morals and teachings are not too bad. Where it breaks down is when it singles out people to "condemn" directly or indirectly.

I am sympathetic to this to some degree. And I think the Bible can help with morality lessens in places. But it is not great at it.

The book of Leviticus alone is pretty much going after things and people one after the other.

Honestly, many people of faith are good people. Even if they go with contradictions or whatever else. However, it seems more and more (or at least to the vocal parts) that religion is often used as just another way of hammering whatever reality or view a given group thinks or wants through and forcing it onto others.

I dunno. It's kinda hard to say people of faith are good when it seems like a vast majority of them (or a very vocal minority, anyway) are openly hateful of anyone who lives antithetically to their worldview. To me goodness isn't good if its doled exclusively by condition or under the umbrella of judgement.

It is not unique to religion but they use it as a hammer more and more. And that gets old really fast. And it is based on unassailable principles to those people. How does one debate with God? any god.

    Quote:
Most people are decent enough but you just need a few that push hard enough and people will go to their camps. Anymore Christianity (the biggest in the US) is just part of tribalism. Just another tent for people to flee into. Just like any political ideology. At least in many regards.

Tribalism is the crux of it all. It's easy to forego critical analysis when you have others with like-minded views appealing to your base sense of comfort and confirmation-bias.

Since mankind's hands have touched this...even if it had been pure when 1st written it has been changed to essentially help whoever was politically in charge at the time to keep their power and agendas moving forward. essentially imo...even if its 1st iteration was actually pure...it is now corrupted.

Also...I always found that line about..."Thow shall have no other gods before me"...seems like an outright admission that God is not the ONLY god out there. ;P
