Quote:...is that at best it should be used for inspiration, or as something to make you think and try to have a better way of life.
Quote:If you cut about 75% of it out, it might be good for that purpose. Unfortunately many people, like our friend Jesusfan, believe that every word, every line, and every commandment is the true word of god, and must be obeyed.
Quote:And...honestly, there are much better books out there to take inspiration from.
Do they sell the Jefferson Bible? He was famous for ripping out pages of the bible he didn't like.
Honestly I still think many of Jesus' teaches have not really been learned. Especially ironically by Christians. Like "love they neighbor as thy self." How can you think Gays or any other minority are second class citizens if you love them like you love yourself? or "turn the other cheek" or we need to ban Muslims from the country and bomb their countries because terrorists attacked us... not if we believed in turning the other cheek. If we did we would increase or aid to muslim countries every time they attacked us. "It is more difficult for a camel to travel through the head of a pin than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Capitalism is our real God. And the rich are our idols. Not Jesus.
The original one is lost to time. I don't think a known copy exists. Jefferson later did it again, but called it The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth.
