There needs to be a balance. You cannot regulate everything and make laws for every instance. I think it's stupid but would you really want to force somebody to make you a pink penis cake if you knew they hated you? And if you do...your probably doing it for a non-positive reason since others stores will happily make one for you.

There IS a balance. There's a fine line between simple choice and discrimination, and I'd be hard pressed in some cases to tell you where that line is. But that's why we have laws, and courts, and judges to look at each case individually and make decisions on them.

And they're not isolated things. The legal rulings in this particular bakery case will have implications in many other cases for years or decades to come.

I usually answer questions like yours with a question of my own: Do you think that what people like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks did was right? All they did was fight for minority rights.

There were a great many individuals who owned stores, or hotels/boarding houses or restaurants who simply wanted to follow their own consciences, run their businesses the way they wanted to, and just not provide their services to blacks. That's all. But it was still discrimination.

Some things will never change unless we kick up a fuss about them. The ruling in the bakery case was a good one, because the next people who want to open a bakery will know that there are standards of behaviour they legally have to comply with, just as they have standards of food hygiene and public safety.

Also curious would anyone be up in arms if say the store ONLY catered to the gay community...and would not sell straight people cakes.

Yes, because it's just as discriminatory.
