It's when a player (or NPC) becomes so obsessed with an alignment axis where he loses all pragmatism/objectivism. In order to enforce the rule of drama comic heaven tends to be pushed into lawful-stupid territory. . . especially when it comes to the militant arm of heaven. It is less common for the Good-Stupid, but it happens sometimes too. It is the Paladin who says I use Detect Evil, He's Evil, So I smite him.

To be fair, most of the time the Paladin is not wrong. Usually the things coming at you are evil anyway and doing bad stuff. It is bad when a game plays more on the complexity and types of evil and so on though. Which is fun.
