I am not defending Christianity at all. But when it comes to true extremism...they are not strapping bombs to children and women and sending them into subway tunnels to kill people. When this is brought up...the response is always something like..."stop labelling them" or "they are not all like this" or something similar. And then the next post is about how terrible Christians are. I am pointing this out because it is biased whether meant or not.

Couldn't agree more. A Muslim fundamentalist blows himself up and takes innocent people with him, and the first thing you hear all over the media is...'This has got nothing to do with Islam'.

    Quote:
The statement isn't only untrue, it's not helping matters. It shuts down debate - discuss it as an act of terrorism, but don't discuss the cause being Islam - when we REALLY need to be bringing Islam into the spotlight. If these lunatics are getting their ideas on jihad from the Koran, then it has EVERTHING to do with Islam.

The data is out there...the people who lived through it are still out there...most people dared not go to Church PERIOD.

Then why did he bother to reinstate the church? There's absolutely no question that he did it. But if no one could or would attend the churches, the it was an empty, meaningless gesture.

Exactly pretty much meaningless...else why were there 3 or 4 more periods of the religious oppression...Stalin included.

    Quote:
All your link shows is an Atheist state using religion as a weapon against the people...i.e. convince them to go become soldiers and die for the state.

    Quote:
Yes! Absolutely! And it couldn't possibly have worked unless the people themselves were still highly religious.

    Quote:
And that's been my point all along, if you read back. Despite Stalin declaring Russia an atheist country, it never truly has been. The people always held on to their faith, even during the period when it was driven underground.

So your blaming the victims here? It was the Atheists here using some religious people (as well as non religious) for evil twisted goals. We don't blame victims for other crimes.
