Not sure I agree. An ad hominem is designed to tarnish an opponent in a debate or discussion. It as an argumentative tactic. I get your point, though.

With regard to an artist who engages in abhorrent behavior, and the decision to no longer find that art appealing, this is subjective to the standards of the observer. I can't personally find Bill Cosby entertaining because of what has been substantively alleged against him.

But lets look at Michael Richards. He used racist rhetoric on his hecklers. He went way too far. At the same time, he acknowledged that he was 100% wrong and tried to atone for his mistake. It took a long time, but I was able to forgive him and enjoy Seinfeld again.

Being accountable for your mistakes goes a long way. Sometimes it doesn't go far enough, though, if the behavior is too egregious.
