Maybe I'm just showing my age, but whenever I think of the song, it's their original version that I hear. The first time I ever heard the song was their version, which reached the Top 20. It was very popular and was probably the version that got the most airplay when I was growing up.

I know lots of people have covered it, but I barely even recall many of the covers. I'm especially not a fan of Bolton or Buble. Their versions are the only two that really come close to the popularity of the original.

Growing up, the only other versions I was familiar with were the Animals, Simone, and Joplin versions. Hats off to them (I'm a big fan of all of them), but I don't think their versions were as good. It wasn't until I was well into my 20s that Bolton did his version (around the time my daughter was being born).

I can't remember when was the first time I heard the song or who was the singer. I think that I've know this song since I was a kid (but, unfairly, without connecting the song to their creators which is a shame ...).

It is one of those absolutely perfect classic songs which never get old.
