I think this is hitting the nail on the head. Personally I don't think Trump did much to help the economy...except in one way. The investors responded pretty strongly to their perceptions of Trump being good for them whether in reality this was so or not. That perception pushed some positive effects and gains...in a way giving Trump some credit though one could argue whether by this perception or by anything he actually did. I actually think you 2 are agreeing on this one point if not the others.

If the stock market moves on expectations, and it does to a point, than one does not need to deliver so long as the expectation is there.

The stock market is an odd duck really. Depending on the index it is an odd assortment of larger companies issuing stock that are selected differently in each index. The S&P is considered the most accurate but even it leaves smaller companies out.

At least from my understanding, but that is more of a rant about how much value we put into that sort of thing as opposed to anything Trump may or may not have done.
