Quote: Given as most of the guns are obtained illegally (Or in Chicago is due mostly to gang violence, gangs don't obtain their guns lawfully.). Also, suicides are the majority of gun deaths. Homicides are thirds after accidents. And again, it doesn't all have to do with the laws. California has tough gun laws but they still had that big mass shooting not that long ago.
Where is your evidence that most guns are obtained illegally? And is that because there are a large number of guns already available? Would it make it easier then to require every situation to have a background check then?
I am not sure why gang members could not get their guns legally. If they do not have a criminal background they can go and get whatever they want. Even if they do, in lax states they can still get them depending on what they were busted for.
Suicides are still gun related deaths. And it still highlights that the more guns around the easier it is to commit gun related homocides or kill yourself.
Guns make killing oneself about 95% effective. It is the preferred method of offing onesself.
I think you are trying to make things so narrow in scope that it becomes worthless.
One could argue that handguns are more responsible for crimes than rifles etc. and that is true, but mass shootings seem to be more trending towards things like AR-15s even if the later is only responsible for a small percentage of gun deaths in general.
How many gang members DON'T criminal backgrounds? Do you seriously think that gang members don't go to prison, or that they follow laws? Gang members, by definition, obtain their guns UNLAWFULLY! Check this article out, while it's not a smoking gun, they more or less do conclude that most guns in crimes are not obtained by legal means. So, yes, there are further studies and articles that state this.
