are you trying to make the claim that Obama's policies had to do with that? Seems more likely it was the NRA, conservative groups and politicians saying that Obama was going to take away every bodies guns every chance.

This happened with Clinton too and looks to be a modern pattern with a Dem president.

I suppose, but I am not talking about outlawing guns. So the point you are bringing up is a bit of a straw man here.

And that is true that it did not spike up, but it is also true that violent crime has been coming down in all areas for a while. That does not mean we should stop trying to get it lower and reduce things more either.

Obama never wanted to take everybodies guns but given how he was made out by those on the right he had a secret police force to do just that.
