Did you even read the link? The CDC went out of its way to avoid it being a gun study.


 It's not usually something that they do, since guns aren't a disease. They still did the study and came to some conclusions, while also noting that more research is needed. Obama certainly wasn't saying that they went out of their way to avoid being a gun study.
