Yeah, he has done a lot of research, and he did a popular book called More Guns, Less Crime. I never said that knives top guns. Yes, most of the folks who legally purchased guns were NOT criminals at the time. And a lot of the kids stole the guns (The Sandy Hook shooter took it from his mother, who he killed.), as some of them clearly weren't old enough to purchase them themselves.  But yes, the red flags definitely SHOULD have made it harder to get the guns. In the recent Florida school shooting, it was reported that the cops went to the suspect's house 39 times. It sounds like law enforcement has a LOT to answer for with that one. So, yes, reform is needed. BUT at the same time, you can't penalize responsible gun owners for that.

He did, that is the book I am referring too, it is a highly flawed statistical study. I will not go into it too much but it is the exception rather than the rule. And it appears he was wrong with many factors in it.

That is true, but police also lack the ability to take people's guns in Florida even with cause. They could stop him from getting new ones with an order but that is about it. And that is a problem in and of itself. It would not have stopped this. But it could have, with the background check process working better. But that is not even being discussed.

One of the stupid things in Florida or ever is there are efforts to stop the last attack. I guess in a sense that is fine but we do little to improve broad systems that at least would help.

The guy at Sandy Hook for instance, he was raised in a gun culture and we know that he had some problems. Should parents get in trouble before then for allowing access, for not locking them away or for not having them? Just saying, we can easily go down that way but it would never fly with the gun lobby. It is more important that everybody have as many guns as possible than worrying about the killings that do have because of access.
