Good explanation here. Of course I'm not sure if this is ComicGuy's reasoning, but it's the reason I have heard most often stated.


...from my understanding, the major issue I saw with the FED was that it was a private institution accountable to no political power (or close enough).

In that regard, the FED became a machine created to make profit by preying on the population as opposed to regulating the market to the benefit of that same population. No central bank owned by it's citizens would ever ask of itself the ridiculous interests rates the FED ask and the dept would be owned by it's people, not outside interests.

In that sense, the FED is clearly stealing the citizen from their freedom by operating the way they are.
