I was with my wife and my 3 year old daughter and we were walking towards a fair

It was in the countryside and there was quite a lot of natural beauty, rivers etc. There was a photographer who was taking still shots of the river side, trees etc.

I saw him notice us, whilst it looked like I was absorbed in a conversation with my wife.

He attempted to position his camera and when he did so, I deliberately made the shots awkward with my positioning whilst deliberately standing in front of my daughter.

He looked frustrated and then I shot him a glance, making eye contact and he got his camera and walked off. At this point, as he was agitated, I was going to use his reaction to have an argument with him. I knew he would defend his actions 'public place, no close shot etc' and then be snide by hiding behind these laws. As he was agitated, I knew I could confront him 'why are you annoyed etc' and go down this route and it asked myself the question -why was he so annoyed? I suspect he also predicted how this was going to go and moved on.

Just my own feelings, but I am sure a polite, non confrontational response on my part would have resulted in a snide, this is a public place response.

Legally, there was nothing I could do, we were in a public place, there were no close shots, hence why I obstructed the view.

I am not sure of the legality one way or another. If he is specifically trying to take a picture of you and your family that is not really ok. At least not generally. If you are a face in the crowd than it is different I think. Or if you are just on a trail and you get caught being in the shot.

Not sure why he would have specific interest. I doubt it was anything other than he wanted people in the shot but I doubt he was thinking either. Some people do not like that sort of thing.
