I don't think anything has nailed it yet, but I think the egg by Andy Weir is the closest.

There's only one method that's helping us understand how reality works. Science. It's already 'nailed' a lot of it.

    Quote:
In my mind, I thought how beautiful and ordered it would be if we were different reincarnations of each other, going around and around again.

I think it's horrendous.

The thought that I was once, or will be Hitler, and Jeffrey Dahmer and Jack the Ripper and Ian Brady is a terrible one. Nothing beautiful at all there.

And for what? For what? For some 'knowledge' or 'experience' that a truly all-powerful god could grant you in an instant WITHOUT all the pain and suffering?

    Quote:
It's beautiful from a karma point of view, everything we do bad and good is caused by ourselves. I also thought for an all powerful being it may be boring and what better way than to keep entertained.

Everything we do, good or bad IS caused by ourselves. Here, in the real world. No supernatural 'karma' need be invoked.

    Quote:
I do prefer Andy's interpretation. If the universe is an egg and as a species our totality would be a fetus. Every thought and applied knowledge combined over a near infinity of experiences of moral understanding would just approach being a baby deity.

Yeah, there's a lot of these speculative fictions floating around: Reincarnation, heavens and hells, the notion we're all living in a Matrix-style simulation, and so on. Fortunately, none of them can offer the slightest glimmer of evidence that they're real. And all of them ignore one basic fact:

The universe looks exactly as you'd expect it to given the laws of physics as we understand them. There's no evidence of supernatural agencies anywhere to be found.
