Quote:Once upon a time, news that the President of the United States had an affair with a porn star, that he paid her off with $130,000, and lied about it would have been the biggest story of the year. That this is just accepted by Trump’s supporters as another incident to be disregarded in a long line of similarly incredulous incidents just goes to show how low the bar has been set.
Quote:I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the fact that the act of sleeping with Stormy Daniels happened before he became President. Still, he's done enough since announcing his candidacy (not the least of which is paying Clifford hush money then threatening her) to render the timing of this dalliance moot.
That is true, but similar things from the past destroy careers. It is more recent that they do not. At least to morality first crowd.
If the money and NDA were supposed to keep her quite during the campaign than that is potentially more of a problem. At least based on campaign finance. But, I am not a lawyer.
Quote:The way I see it, Trump supporters have used ignorance of and intolerance for socially liberal ideas, as a mechanism to re-purpose themselves as victims of a zeitgeist that threatens their traditions and beliefs. Their main goal is the destruction of this system, and they don't care what Trump says or does so long as he continues being a harbinger of this destruction.
I think that is fair, but I think what is probably the most shocking thing is the total shift in conservatism. It has always had these impulses to it at the fringes.
However, what the fringes have been saying for years is now things that are acceptable nearly on the whole. And it is somewhat appalling. Be it science denial, virulent anti-immigrant, anti-all by white and most of them are for freedom of speech until you bring up an idea that either challenges or is different from theirs.
It is still not all, but it sure seems that percentage has grown. Seems like what politically correct meant this whole time was don't be a jerk. And what we have are loads of people being jerks.
Not saying liberals are not like this, but it does not compare to the lack of professional conduct or general casting aside of ethical norms we are seeing now.
Look Raist bunnies...
