Its like putting a wolf in a cage. Its great we get to see the wolf, but its not so great for the wolf. You can induce things like that, sure you can, but how do you know anymore if its a genuine spiritual experience then? You don't. Therefore, they are ALL of them just odd psychedelic experiences reproducible in a laboratory.

Well, yes, we do, because if we can create these experiences by passing electric current through certain parts of the brain, we've proven that it's a physical experience, not a 'spiritual' one.

And yet anybody who does supply any shreds of evidence or proof for anything supernatural gets explained away somehow or outright dismissed as a crank or fraudster? So, you can't really win can you? What would it take? Clouds parting and figures descending from above, old testament style miracles? I know why I am not an atheist anymore, so what would it take for other atheists to not be so?

It comes down to the evidence. First you have to understand what evidence IS: Evidence is not proof. Then you have to properly evaluate the evidence. Is it good quality evidence? Is it testable? Does it stack up with reality? Can it be verified?

You say about not losing sleep, I suppose you are generally not going to bed worried about dying in your sleep presently? My father was a hardened atheist, his whole life, used to laugh at his brother for going to church. On his death bed, my father prayed. Maybe he just chickened out of his convictions at the last moment...

Maybe he did. Maybe he had a genuine change of heart. Whatever. If it brought your father some comfort in his last hours then I'm glad he did it.

I know there are a lot of atheists out there who are really bloody minded about atheism, saying things like 'Even if God DID exist, I wouldn't worship him' and so on. Personally, I'd spin on a dime IF there was some solid proof that god exists.

What would that proof be? I honestly don't know. But a god WOULD know. Either it's withholding that information from me, or - far more likely - it simply doesn't exist.

Please, don't feel bad for us. We were 'dead' for 13.8 billion years before we were born. Never did us any harm. So we die. That's ok. Nothing is eternal.

There is no evidence for that.

Yes, we see things die every day. Everything from microscopic organisms to stars have a finite lifetime. Even the entire universe will end up in heat death in about three trillion years. There's mountains of proof of things ending or dying.

What there isn't any solid evidence for is some form of continuance past the point of death.
