Change this to one penny, one cent, or whatever the lowest equivalent is where you are from.

It's a no win situation. When you pay for something in a shop/store and the total comes to say $19.99. You pay with a $20 bill. Then what do you do? you have two options, both are crappy.

Do you...?

A. Stand there like a nimrod waiting for your one cent change. Like "I'm gonna gets the cash coming to me. I gots big plans for this penny."

or B: Even worse, just wave it off like a big hot shot that doesn't need the money. "Hey, Mr Shop assistant, you keep the change. I know you need it more than me. Go out and buy yourself something nice. On me."

Both options suck. Now I know lots of smaller shops have put in the "leave a penny, take a penny" tray, but what do you do when that's not an option? Say in a department store. Just curious because there doesn't seem to be a "better" option in this situation.

In most instances, for most loose change, I'll specifically tell the clerk to leave it for the next person.

An alternative is to say you'd like your receipt. That way you at least don't look like you're waiting on just a penny LOL.
