I wasn't advocating. Deserves has nothing to do with it - I wasn't talking about prayer to save a soul but to save a life while here on earth. If your child is dying of cancer and has only one week to live, I'm quite certain the urge to pray to a deity for an intervention would be WAAAAY higher than praying for an old person's soul who already lived a full life. My point was that if the situation is dire enough, even atheists will hedge their bets and pray.
