    Quote:
[How is he a hero for putting an end to the suffering he's causing? Is that bar really that low for heroism these days?

Because it's the democrats who are causing the suffering by not funding a national security issue. They are the holdouts, not Trump. And although more initially blamed Trump, as time goes on and people start hurting, the anger inevitably shifts to the other side because they're seen as stubborn and a contributor. Any good grace they have at the moment will naturally erode; and opens the door to Trump to be the hero, as Cher correctly argues.

He's owning the shutdown. He's being just as stubborn as they are. They offered funding to secure the border, maybe just not in the way he wants to.

    Quote:
This is not necessarily my opinion, I'm just saying your argument doesn't make sense to me. I struggle to see how Trump comes out of this looking good. Weren't the Dems offering $25 billion for the wall? Now he's negotiated himself down to somewhere between 5 and 1.5?

Because it was offered in exchange for DACA. Why make a concession when once you get re-elected, you can complete your wall and iron out a better alternative to DACA?

Why not just offer a better alternative to DACA now, if he has one, and take the 25 billion?
