    Maybe I was too young when I tried to read it at 15 or so...but oh my god was it boringgggggggggg, read like the bible kinda with all the "begetting" \:P

I'm right there with you. I tried to read it once but didn't get very far. It read like a dry history book, only all of it was made up names and dates. I couldn't see any reason why it would interest anyone to read it.

Are you being entertained? No. Are you learning actual history? No. Does it help with your understanding of the Lord of the Rings? I've read LotR twice and didn't feel I needed any more background.
