People say this is wrong and a violation of liberties but Mexico does this just the same and I don't hear anyone whining about it. I went through several of those checkpoints with my parents in Mexico and they all asked for "papers" and insurance and asked lots of questions at all the check points and searched the car for drugs and guns and undeclared fruit at a couple of them. As Americans we were "gringos" to them. I sure as hell will never drive on roads way down in Mexico again. I will say this to any US Citizen driving way down into Mexico. You better have your papers and insurance and no drugs or guns and be very polite and respectful to the officers at these checkpoints. Read this link below.

A word of note. When I was down there on a cruise ship the police were very friendly and nice at the ports and even in town where I walked around.

While its true, most countries pointing fingers at the USA should have them pointed eight back at themselves...they are nice on the cruise ships because you spendin moolah there.

I feel they should have far more immigration checkpoints all over the the US in every state.
