Quote:Leviticus 18:22 (ESV) - You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
--there is no interpretation about it. It's black and white and described as an abomination.
Now we are delving into the Torah, which also forbids eating pork, shell fish and mixing milk and meat.
As I said previously, many Jewish theologians and rabbis view the Torah as a living law.
We will ignore that for a minute, because it doesn't say anything about BEING gay, just the act of homosexuality. The act of homosexuality is considered sinful, and can be repented for.
Gay sex, by its nature can not be used for procreation. The bible talks often about non-recreational sex in all of its forms, being sinful.
To bring it back to Christianity, the Torah is more anti-adultery, and Christ said that any man who looks on a woman lustfully has committed adultery in his heart.
Of course, Judaism has plenty to say about the evils of lust.
Interestingly, the bible makes no reference to Lesbianism. Rabbis later included that. So, going back to Karen Pence's school, there is a potential lop hole... if it is really about the bible (it isn't).
Most aspects of the Torah also served a practical purpose.
Not eating pork- pigs were filthy, and at the time carried disease
No shellfish - Jews have a high rate of iodine allergy, which is what shellfish allergies actually are.
Not mixing milk and meat - preservation of food in hard times
No homosexuality - to build families for a group that often found themselves in the minority.
That felt good. I have been talking about my dad's family's religion so
much, my Mom's side got neglected. Since they are both very religious,
it felt almost unfair.
Sorry, I know a lot of word intimidate you.
