Leviticus 18:22 (ESV) - You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

--there is no interpretation about it. It's black and white and described as an abomination.

Now we are delving into the Torah, which also forbids eating pork, shell fish and mixing milk and meat.

And did the Torah call eating pork, shell fish, and mixing milk and meat abominations? If I recall, those were merely instructions, like this:

Leviticus 11:7 (ESV) - And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

I would think that if homosexuality was forbidden for mere population concerns that a description other than abomination (atrocity, disgrace, horror, obscenity, curse, etc.) would have been used.

As I said previously, many Jewish theologians and rabbis view the Torah as a living law.

Christians don't view Jewish theologians and rabbis as proper authorities for Biblical interpretation, though. The Old Testament is solidified in time, having once been applicable, and the New Testament is what they live by. Neither Old/New Testament is a living law to them.
