I'm curious to know how it ignores the teachings of Jesus?

Because it is. One can find sections that do state negative things about homosexuality. However, there are other portions about judge not less ye be judged and so on.

Jesus's main message was about the forgiveness of sin, loving your neighbor and so on.

If a person makes their faith mainly about disliking one group of people, than there is a problem. You can find counter points about people needing to be stonned for this and that sin and so on.

However, Jesus seems mostly about forgiveness. Not acting holier than another person and treating them as less than they are because of it. Unless one wants to spin the message to a point it cannot be recognized.
