It is not about your politics, which you want to make it. It is about your actions.

I know it would be more comforting if it was about politics so it would have an ideological bend, and you could be the victim.
However it is not. Just you. You made personal attacks, and used generalizations made by others to justify it. Not other personal attacks, generalizations.
Because no one else was making personal attacks...except you.
There is a difference, and my issue is with your justification for why you thought it was okay to am it up.
