In my little suburban loop, there's a stray grey cat that I think we've seen off and on for the last year or two. I only see it every couple months. I don't really even know if it's a stray, it could be like our family cat that wanders the neighborhood but always comes back to our house.

So I just found out a few days ago that recently my kids started feeding this cat and petting it and getting friendly, "because he looks hungry and sad" so now every time I come home or go out on our porch, there it is waiting.

I don't really want another cat but my kids paying attention to it has obviously drawn it to us. He's getting bolder and will probably try sneaking in our house whenever the door's ajar. I told my kids to leave it alone but no success.

So now I guess my options are, get mean with my kids, get mean with the cat, or I have a new cat. Any other strategies?

Well I'll keep putting as much distance between us as possible. I was feeling about this cat sleeping outside in the cold of winter but then I thought, if it has been around for a couple of years it has managed to get by. It snowed last night and it seems fine. So I just keep reminding the kids that it's an outside, neighborhood cat. And if we let him in, he'll eat our cat's food.

I don't know if the cat is male or female or if it's been spayed or neutered. But our cat has.
