I think anyone paying attention for the past few decades would’ve accurately guessed that other civil liberties were on deck to be challenged by the “pro-life” crowd, the same crowd who somehow also doesn’t want the gubment interfering in their lives by telling them they have to suffer gays, woke people, Muslims, etc.

And to a large point successfully. I know to me one of the ironies is also that the CRT histaria is a joke. The various laws to one degree or another restrict what can be taught and how from the same groups that were so for keeping up confederate statues that were largely put up without historical goals other than to exonerate the confederate way of life well after the fact in an effort to surpress or exonerate those terrible ideals.

But the actual teaching of history that may make some kids or parents uncomfortable is unacceptable and may make somebody feel uncomfortable.

And on cue the same tired “states rights” dog whistle gets trotted out.

Yeah, that is one of the biggest scams there is. It has allowed all sorts of discrimination over the course of US history and is generally the retreat of other ideas.

I suppose not always and some people probably legit believe it but it is not possible to totally separate the two in my mind. And often having the 50 labs of democracy just has a number of states falling into one of two directions and doing little to actually help many problems and passing meaningless rules that do more to impair people you disagree with.

This is hardly unique to a party, but at present the GOP is in control of more states. And if anything the lack of representation in these states will be what prevents any sort of beneficial changes that put the US further behind other countries and just support the racism and inequality that neoliberalism has pushed for decades.
