In the case of Marvel/DC films and tv, it's rare that I watch them more than once. They're always a disappointment. I find the source material better in almost every respect.

But watching those films always gives me the impetus to go back to the source material. The Eternals and Shang-Chi were massive let downs, but I went straight back to the comics and re-read Kirby's Eternals and Master of Kung-Fu up to the end of the Moench/Gulacy run.

I quite enjoyed Shang-Chi so long as I didn't care that the movie version is barely like the comics version. The action sequences were some of the best in the MCU like the bus fight and the skyscraper scaffolding fight. I generally enjoy the MCU films more than most Marvel comics today. I find there is usually only a single Marvel title I am enthusiastic about at any given time in the past dozen years, e.g., Hickman's Fantastic Four/FF run, Fraction's early Hawkeye, Ewing's Ultimates, Hickman's early X-Men run, currently Duggan's X-Men. Yeah, the very best comic runs ever like Claremont-Byrne's X-Men, Miller's Daredevil, Simonson's Thor, and Byrne's Fantastic Four exceed the vast majority of MCU films, but the average Marvel comic doesn't for me. Too many comics today have lost that sense of fun and care more about putting the characters through the emotional wringer. I do think the MCU films have recently dropped somewhat in quality though. The Eternals and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness were both near the bottom of all MCU films in terms of quality.

Eternals had the biggest knock on a movie for me and that is to be utterly boring. It was the first Marvel film I debated on stopping and watching something else.

Look Raist bunnies...
