    modern conservatism is a joke.

Every Republican in the House that voted in favor of gun control legislation that Democrats put forward is retiring. In other words, some Republicans know what the right thing to do is, but none have the courage to do it unless they have nothing to lose.

it's not even simple a matter of who's funding their campaigns while they're in office. It's also who in the private sector will be offering them a job or one of their children a job when they leave office. My point being, that usually the corruption doesn't even stop when they're planning to leave office. Look no further than the career of Kristen Sinema for such an example.

Honestly, if Republicans still in office are only voting down gun legislation because it's what their constituents want that'd best be described as an unfortunate but principled stance. I think that's seldom the case though.

As far as what's right on the gun issue, I'm not sure either party is compelling or serious on it.

We can get into it but it's pretty emblematic of the differences in the parties generally: Republicans are in a fantasy driven death cult and Democratic leadership are by definition incapable of pursuing the sorts of systemic changes necessary to make a meaningful impact due to a complicated set of convoluted circumstances and incentives.
