I generally am supportive of it, even if the core problems of cost and loans is not really addressed itself, but it is a big deal for those getting some relief. As their economic power just went up. Not having to make at least some payments is nice for them.

Politically, I imagine it will be attacked and so on but not sure that it matters that much. I was a little surprised on the timing.

LGDB: I largely agree. I'm 100% supportive of this. It's the smart political move and it's the moral thing. Even if you're a cynical actor here, the idea of sending a message to a very important electoral cohort that this party and this administration can deliver for you at a material level, at least somewhat. At least a bit more than the Republicans. It's a good play before mid terms.

My only criticism is that he should do more. Far far more... which Biden could do. It enunciates a very specific horizon of imagination, will, or scruples. Regardless, this exceeded my expectations and I think it's a legitimate feather in his cap.

The cost of higher education is something that needs to be dealt with.

The debt alone that young people have to take on is staggering. It crushes buying power, makes buying or renting homes or anything nearly impossible in most places. Not to mention some jobs require advanced degrees (incurring costs of a Masters for instance) but do not really give pay bumps to it. Often teaching falls under that bubble, but librarians have the same issue.

Then you are paying off debts for decades. Money that could be used saving for the future, homes or even vacations and the like. But for most having that money could out is a giant chunk that greatly harms the individual and their families for a long period that is frankly ridiculous.
