For extreme simplicity, I'll define an evil political regime as one that employs secret police.

I had to google a bit to find an unambiguous reference to something that sounds like secret police in Cuba, but here's an article:
https://www.npr.org/2021/11/16/1056082134/cubas-government-is-using-police-and-other-tactics-to-crush-plans-for-dissent

And of course theocracies are also guilty of employing secret police, as is evident from this list, which includes both Communist and theocratic countries in today's world, as well as some other countries that don't fit in either category:

For fun, here's a list of countries that employed secret police throughout history, which of course will include Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, as well as (disgustingly) the USA in the 50s, 60s, and 70s:

Can you name a Communist political regime that didn't employ secret police?

Do you agree that employing secret police is a valid litmus test for whether a political regime is evil?

Your concern seems somewhat myopic.

First, most communist countries were formed during the Cold War, and therefore used the Soviet model, often under their direct instruction. Which of course would include something roughly analogous to the KGB.

More to my point, why are you so zeroed in on communism? Is it an 80s nostalgia thing? I'm no supporter of communism, but it seems like an off thing to focus on.

You yourself pointed out that not is not the only political ideology to employ secret police. Even that list miss many far more impactful uses than Cuba.

The Us helped set up similar practices, even training them, in countries that were fighting communism. That is not even including teh one s we just supported.

Rand Paul recently pointed out the very accurate abuses the Espionage Act since its inception, forgetting his support for its use to go after Snowden. Which is not only using the government to go after a political opponent, but to continue the surveillance of Americans by a formerly secret organization that spies on Americans. Then again. Rand Paul and hypocrite are basically synonyms.

There is also the smaller governments that do that. Ron DeSantis Election Police that report only to him comes to mind as potential abuse. It is also not unheard of for cities to use the ACTUAL police to go after political organizations and rivals.

Then there are the history of it in the private sector. Henry Ford had a secret police force ran by a psychopath named Harry Bennett. Hollywood had similar organizations under their employ. That is not even getting into the modern element of buying politicians to get laws that help them pass to use the actual cops.

Why communism, when it is powerful people in general.
