I am not reading Ultimates, and only know what I read on the board since well, I really liked the old universe. So, if this is iteration 8 of the universe and its not just a modification of 7, but a new universe of its own, it has a whole back history to the big bang, correct? If thats true, why are order and chaos just know killing the living tribunal? Wouldnt they have figured that out a few million years ago?

The truth is...there is no truth yet. The multiverse is in a state of flux where things are still being sussed out after the recent Secret Wars crossover and the multiverse collapsing during Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers runs. There is disagreement among the cosmic powers about what exactly happened and what their response should be. Some cosmic beings think it's a new universe where new rules should apply while other cosmic beings think it's just a continuation of the old order and everything should remain exactly as it was....and some of the ones who think it should remain that way are paradoxically willing to reinvent themselves to destroy anyone and anything in order to keep things the same.

And if its just an alteration to iteration 7, (which is the way it seems) then continuity really makes no sense on a number of points.

At least DC gave us "the history of the DC universe" book right after COIE. We got nothing except confusion.

There's so few changes between 7 and 8 I don't think you need a manual. Ultimate Reed and Spider-Miles have been ported over and their are some cosmological changes...but nothing that important outside of the events in the Ultimates book IMO. The mess of things is acknowledged as a mess that is being untangled in Ultimates. In your head you think their is a new status quo. The new status quo has not quite coalesced just yet.

Basically what I'm saying is Ewing has managed to take Hickman's turds from Secret Wars/New Avengers and is doing his best to make lemonade with them in Ultimates. (don't drink lemonade made from turds...no good will come of it).

But that's really the only place off the top of my head where this Secret Wars drivel matters.

I conceptually liked SWs. The main issue for me was it was too drawn out. The lead in to me was great and the stuff with Doom and Reed was fitting, but parts of it did fall flat.
