The movie was fun, but throughout the movie I felt that it was not providing much advancement towards the impending Infinity War.
Then I realized that perhaps it was when I remembered those gold skinned aliens, and then watched all the bonus scenes during the credits.
Also of a minor note: the 6th infinity stone, the Soul Gem, does not appear in this movie so that is still coming.
And I doubt that it will be appearing in SPider-man Homecoming, so that leaves THOR 3.
I thought it suffered the problems of Iron Man 2, Thor 2 etc. in that it failed to deliver after a great start. The pacing and tempo seemed really off. Parts of it dragged and I actually fell asleep briefly. Kurt was good, as was the Aussie bird from Night Manager. Stallone was just wasted. I mean really, what was the point? Drax and Rocket got plenty of laughs but in many ways the humour wrong footed the movie as some jokes were rubbish and it's difficult to ramp up the jeopardy when it keeps yelling at us that this is a a comedy movie.
The best thing I can say about the movie is that it always looked nice and the characters were fleshed out nicely, but the story doesn't really go anywhere. The end pieces are interesting, but it's stretching it when they're the most interesting aspect of the movie. Enjoyable, but disappointing too.
