Is anyone reading Slott and Allreds Surfer? It's been a fantastic comic! This series, so different in tone from any preceding take on the character, is so rich & satisfying, staying true to the Surfer's philosophic & noble nature & exploring worlds within worlds of emotion & humanity, often underneath a veneer of deceptively light banter, cutting to the very core of existence itself. Just the idea of the story! The Surfer being able to explore a new universe! And his relationship with Dawn! How can the Surfer ever have a relationship after this one? How can he go, "Back to Shalla-Bal"? after this one (A Joe Satriani song)? I love their creation of The Never Queen and of course good friend Galen of Taa! It was a beautiful story! A love story! And a cosmic story! And that incredible art, and that double page spread! It's too bad that it's ending, but it's been a long, great run by these two!

Allred's art is okay, but I'm not crazy about how cartoony it is. I like Slott's intentions, but I find the execution to be uneven, especially the pacing. That said, at this run's best, as with this issue, it is very good.

I don't dislike Dawn the way some do on this board, but this run does forever render Shalla-Bal an afterthought.
