... some people may be disappointed by the Iron Fist series.

I think that Misty Knight was one of the breakout characters of the comic book.

Obviously, her physical appearance & attitude were based on Tamara Dobson and Pam Grier and she had a bionic arm, like the Bionic Woman.

Still, I think that she was one of the most interesting characters of the comic book, back then, and she has remained one of the few independant women of Marvel comics, even in 2017.

Of course, it doesn't mean that the Iron Fist series cannot be interesting without her but it explains why people might be disappointed.

Not to take anything away from how great Misty is as a character in either medium but I don't think any of the Netflix's Iron Fist's show's shortcomings are about a lack of Misty. The show is ok but it has some fundamental flaws. Danny comes off at times as a white college student who just got back from a semester abroad in a foreign culture that now thinks himself the newest expert in said culture.

Personally I can't imagine Netflix Misty and Danny being a couple yet. I'd prefer if they held off on pairing them together until after Luke and Danny become friends. Danny seems really...out of touch.

Another mistake was probably to make the Hand an archenemy of the Iron Fist legacy (something that doesn't come from the comics).

The problem is I don't think much of K'un L'un mythology was really developed or consistent until it got the upgrade in Immortal Iron Fist.

When I think of Iron Fist's nemesis I think of Steel Serpent. Netflix did with Davos/Steel Serpent what the Dr. Strange movie did with Baron Mordo. They introduced him as an ally to build him up as a traitor further down the road. I liked that. But they had to give Danny enemies...Harold is from the origin but they needed a bigger bad. Madame Gao is a reworked Crane Mother from Immortal Iron Fist fused with the Hand mythology. I thought Madame Gao was excellent in Daredevil season 1...but she was practically Snidely Whiplash twirling his mustache in Iron Fist...the nuance she had in Daredevil got replaced with a lot of overt villainy.

Personally I think the reason for the K'un L'un/The Hand mythology merger is because of whoever the big bad is in Defenders. I think we'll find out Sigourney Weaver's character will somehow be the Beast the Hand worships and the Iron Fist will be the heroic counterpart to the Beast. Her character's name is supposedly Alexandra which makes me wonder (ok I stole the theory from someone else) if she might be a retooling of Wilson Fisk's kingpin predecessor Alexander Bont. So I'm wondering if Sigourney's character is the synthesis of those 2 ideas...the Beast AND a female Alexander Bont.
