There were people there before Lar Gand. He brought the people who could manipulate metals through magneticism to Braal, but there were people there before.
Will Payton would make sense as a Starman in the Modern DCU. He didn't have ties to previous Starmen in the same way that others did. Payton also ties in with "previous lives" if we also consider that he may or may not be Prince Gavyn.
And you forgot about Barbatos, the bat-demon that Thomas Jefferson and a group of American Revolutionaries sold their soul to in order to make America great, is now also a demon from the Dark Multiverse.
And yeah it does read like Grant Morrison fanfiction, or at least a Grant Morrison Mad Lib. I kind of like this crossover because this is unlike any other crossovers I've read in the past. At least there aren't any red skies or fade to whiteness or a cover featuring a rendition of Pieta. I have no idea where this is going, and that is kind of refreshing. In fact, it feels like a "horror movie as crossover." The crazy JLA-themed Batmen might as well be wearing Hockey Masks.
