Subj: To be fair, he was based on Sam Neil from the Omen...(and couldn't it be another Alias?)

Patty Jenkins has confirmed that Pedro Pascal will portray Maxwell Lord in the movie.

The choice of this character probably comes from Geoff Johns.

I don't like this idea at all.

In 1987, Maxwell Lord was created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire as an amoral businessman but not as a supervillain.

The character was integrally part of the fun of the book.

In 2005-2007, Maxwell Lord was turned by Geoff Johns into some kind of sociopathic anti-superhuman fanatic. It was a huge retcon without respect for the character's roots. In the story, his death at the hands of Wonder Woman was conceived as pure shock value. Also, it might have been Geoff Johns' personal opinion on the topic of death penalty.
Last but not least, in my opinion, Infinite Crisis is one of the weakest stories written by Geoff Johns, especially compared to his work on Flash, JSA, Hawkman or Green Lantern.

I don't understand why Pedro Pascal couldn't portray Leon Zeiko, Edgar Cizko, Carlo Montez or Jackson Alpert ... in other words, Dr. Psycho. He has been one of Wonder Woman archenemies since the Golden Age.

...it isn't too far afield to have Maxwell Lord as an amoral bad guy. I just wish they went with someone who was more like Sam Neil than Pedro Pascal. There is an intensity to Maxwell's portrayals prior to 8 that was kind of neat.

In any case, whose to say that Maxwell Lord isn't just another alias for Dr. Psycho. It would be a fun misdirect if it was, with someone else playing the crippled and wide-eyed Dr. Psycho. And it would fit with the motif of the Silver Swan in this movie.

Also, I hated that retcon from Infinite Crisis. My contention (which is probably Keith Giffen's intention too, if we take the Super Buddies stories as canon) is that the person inhabiting Maxwell's Body is Dreamslayer and that the real Maxwell Lord is inhabiting the robot version of Dreamslayer. That's why Maxwell Lord was 100% robot in the Super Buddies series, yet 100% Human in the Infinite Crisis series.

In my mind, that robotic Maxwell Lord (now called the MAX CLUSTER) has teamed up with Blue Beetle and Booster in the year 3000 with Ice and Fire to fight off the encroaching armies of Lady Styx as the first iteration of the JUSTICE LEGION INTERPLANETARY.
