Quote:Man, that is not Gambit. I'm sorry, Marvel, but Gambit talks Cajun a.k.a. Creole and the guy walking around next to Deadpool talks like Deadpool. Acker & Blacker really need to be taken out behind the wood shed and given a whoopin'. If you can't get the character's voice right, you have no business writing a comic.
Yep, they don't have Gambit's voice down. Even outside the accent being missing(since it seems like a lot of Marvel writers are getting rid of accents and especially not doing phonetically spelled accents anymore). I don't think they are very familiar with the character.
This book is essentially Ugly Deadpool and Handsome Deadpool engage in hijinks. The story itself is pretty good and the portrayal of Deadpool is pretty good too. It's just that there are two of the guy and there's only supposed to be one. Plus there's supposed to be this other guy.
Yeah, it's a bit disappointing as a Gambit fan.
Quote:The man known as Pang Lai is a main character in this issue and I enjoyed him a lot. I enjoyed him especially at the end of the issue when he reveals some stuff. Frankly the man known as Pang Lai is the best reason for buying this series (which is my way of telling you he'll be in the next issue).
Yep, I enjoyed him a lot too. I liked him in the Iron Fist books too.
Quote:Actually, the con man known as Chalmers is another main character in this issue and he made me continually wonder if there may be more to him than meets the eye. I guess suspicion can be a form of enjoyment. I enjoyed being highly suspicious of Chalmers. Meanwhile,
I don't know if Chalmers will be in the next issue or not.
He's not been much fun in this series yet, but I always enjoyed his appearances in Spider-Man comics.
Quote:I don't know if I can really recommend this thing. But if you're one of those people who doesn't mind (for example) that all of Bendis's characters sound like Bendis, then maybe you won't care what Gambit sounds like.
Oh man, you have no idea how much I dislike Bendis' writing for that and many other reasons. Anyway, yeah it is annoying. Gambit just hasn't seemed like Gambit in this series so far. Here's hoping for better in the upcoming issues, as I've enjoyed the overall story pretty well so far.
Some of what I liked and disliked about the issue-
-The Marvel villain cameos, and Doctor Voodoo's appearance(loved what he gave Deadpool as transportation).
-"Ohmygod you have a type" "I have a type"
-The last page cliffhanger.
Not So Crazy About
- Much more focus on Deadpool than Gambit(even though I was expecting that from this series).
-As was mentioned many times above, Gambit wasn't really himself.
