Ok, so this issue just about confirms what last issue strongly hinted at - this run is not for me - and after this run Zdarsky needs to stay far away from the Fantastic Four.

Not only do we have sub-par art now taking the place of one of the greatest strengths so far of MTIO volume 2 so far, but we get another in what seems to be an ongoing series of (bad) attempts by Zdarsky to put his mark on the book through inane retcons. Last issue we had the "flame as cleaning agent". Now we're subjected to this nonsense about their powers being dependent on being in the same universe as each other. I don't even have the desire to go into details of how ludicrous this plot point is. I simply will add my hopes with others who've already posted that this retcon is done away with as soon as possible.

I don't like that retcon either. My big annoyance has always been that Johnny and Ben aren't really allowed to grow up and have their own wives, children etc. Their lives always fall apart so they can be stuck in Reed and Sue's little family without having families of their own.

Now you've got a retcon that literally says they can't grow as people and the 4 have to be stuck with each other...in a book that's about them being split up. Grr.

I wish we could see Johnny and Ben growing without Reed and Sue instead of settling into this depressing malaise.
