A lot of the 'stories' were literally written for the panel. I think in the end Reed was a villain and Ben and Sue were hooked up?

Yeah, Sue and Ben were together and Sue removed a sample of Reed's Fantastic Sauce and impregnated herself artificially. She was told that she and Reed needed to have a child by Spider-Ham.

You can't make this stuff up.

Oh Sweet Baby Jeebiz, that's just absolutely horrible. Were they just checking to see if anyone was reading the derned thing at that point.

Those last few issues of the FF were truly weird. Dr. Doom, Falcon, Invisible Woman, and the Machine Man as the Future Foundation, as run by Dr. Susan Storm. What I thought was neat was that Sue Storm is posed as this trouble shooter...this sort of female Doc Savage-type character with the men around her being off in some way. She wasn't a den mother. She was team leader, which was a nice reversal of the typical FF story where she's usually the damsel in distress.

As for Spider-Ham telling her that she needs to be pregnant, it was and it wasn't. What Spider-Ham said was that Franklin Richards was one of the deciding factors in the destruction of the various multiverses. And Franklin Richards are created by mixing Sue and Reed Richards DNA. Sue tries to go to Reed to do this, but he convinces her to find another way. She loves Ben Grimm, so Reed and Sue find a way to use Ben's genetic material and modify it in such a way as to create a being as powerful as a Reed and Sue child. That was the happy ending at the end: Sue telling Ben that they had a boy together.
