    Geoff Johns?

Obviously not given he's washed his hands of the character. I tried to like this new book and to be fair it was at least readable. I felt the way Barry's past had been refitted and made to be grimmer was extremely heavy handed and did not suit the character at all, it was not remotely subtle in its effect. Ressurecting him after a near 25 years gone was always going to be a tough sell, he was retired as his story had run its course and his history had become overly complex.
It's ironic there's a Flash Retroactive issue from Wally's prime years out now as there is a very telling gulf between how he and Barry are presented. Wally lived in a recognisable world in which he was both relatable and flawed in a veery human and vulnerable way, Barry on the other hand is the archetypical comicbook hero. He's Of a whole other generation and his life is like nothing most people can feel much affinity with. No matter how hard they try with him I really don't think DC can bridge that fundamental problem.

Might give it a chance but....

That goes for 95% of those books really. I stopped reading the Flash as it was going nowhere and to be honest I couldn't even remembeer what the last two issues had been about, which is never a good sign for a book. But looking to the positives Francis Manapul is extremely talented and I adore his art, I think what needs to be done is to steer the book towards character development and not focus so much on power, speedtricks or overused villains like Reverse-Flash. They should ask thee question "What has Barry Allen got in his life to struggle against?", he had a life that was hell on earth in the final few years before his Crisis induced rest but where is he now? An accomplished carreer police scientist.
Something needs to be found to put a different spin on who Barry Allen is.
