When it comes to origin retcons, I prefer the Secret Origins story where it turns out Barry Allen ran so fast when he destroyed the Anti-Monitor's cannon in COIE, he went back in time transformed into energy and became the lightning bolt that struck the chemicals that gave him his speed. It was a better story than I am describing but that being said, nothing tops the original in Showcase #4.
