To be honest i can't recall Johns ever showing Sonar or Evil Star in his tenure on the series, he was too heavily invested in developing his own Emotional Spectrum Mythology to spend time on Hal's classic rogues - it's remarkable really that he made an exception for Hector hammond, and an early appearance from The Shark that was never followed up on and left open-ended.

His ignoring Sonar as a character might be understandable given much of Hal's adventures were now set off out in space, Evil Star though has always been (for me at least) the single most wasted of Hal's rogues. There'a an awful lot of potential in this villain, one of the few of his classic foes who can convincingly match him strength for strength and one with a potentially sympathetic and engaging backstory that would resonate even today... If looking for an example one needs only recall his appearance in The Darkstars to see how and why the character could work well today as a worthwhile and major protagonist for Green Lantern and the wider DC Universe. \(yes\)

Yes. Both Sonar and Evil Star were background characters in Johns' run.

Geoff had Sonar make cameos in the 52 run as one of Black Adam's Axis of countries alliance.

At one point Hal visited Hector Hammond in jail, and Sonar was in another cell demanding diplomatic immunity.

Evil Star was the one who first re-empowered Black Hand in Johns' run.
It was speculated later on, he must have been serving Nekron.

Then Sister Mercy of the Blue Lantern mentioned she was concerned for her homeworld because Evil Star had takened it over. But this was never followed up on.
