Have they appeared together? Or was Appa the "original" Ganthet-type guardian?

Appa as far as I recall was indeed the original 'Ganthet'. He featured in the original Denny O'Neill/Neal Adams run on Green Lantern and ended up stripped of his power and immortality by his fellow Guardians and ended up back on Maltus. We picked up his story in Steve Englehart's run where he is a valued and reverential figure in Maltus' society, he eventually returns to OA and advises Hal Jordan and the Corps, as the Guardians had left the Universe at the end of the Crisis.
When the Corps collapsed at the end of the original series Appa is left alone and apparently goes completely mad, from loneliness. Tapping OA's power once again he takes cities and environments he remembers from his travels across the Universe and Hal has to reach out to the exiled Guardians to return and deal with their out of control brother, which they eventually succeed at by executing him...

I know Appa was visually referenced somewhere in modern post continuity, as a retrospective on the Guardians' chequered history, In principle then he should have had contact with Ganthet, and been there for 'Secret Origin' back in Geoff Johns' first three years on the book... if you recall that story we were shown that Guardians didn't have personal names anymore, but that one of them had reached out to Green Lantern Sinestro and was orchestrating certain events, this we learn is someone called "Ganthet".
It seems reasonable if Ganthet was a rebel by nature then he may well have influenced 'Appa' to start taking a more independent view of himself too...
