I've only seen the first episode of the HBO series, but I have to say that I'm currently cautiously optimistic for the new show. If you're only familiar with the Raymond Burr series you may have trouble reconciling your own head cannon version with the HBO show, but IMHO this looks like it could be an origin story of the Perry Mason books I remember. I think I'll be watching to whole series to see how it goes, but I'm guessing that Erle Stanley Gardner would be proud of it.

Maybe once the whole season comes out I'll find a way to watch it. Does it seem like the same character, just at an earlier stage?
