Maybe once the whole season comes out I'll find a way to watch it. Does it seem like the same character, just at an earlier stage?

Well when I first read the books, Perry seemed like a little different character. I still liked him, but book Perry didn't seem to always be in such control the way I was remembering Burr's Mason. I think I read three or four books, and I never got the feeling that is was the same character Raymond Burr played. The books came before the television series, so I always kept that in mind. (Otherwise, I may not have enjoyed the books as much.)

As far as I can tell, this new series is starting out as an origin story. It never occurred to me that Perry Mason needed one, but as long as it's here, I'll check it out.

Now in my craziest imagination, I can't see Burr's Perry Mason having this HBO origin, but as I remember the books, yeah, that could be this Matthew Rhys guy.  (At least at this early stage)    And what what I saw of this Della Street, she fits in with the books and the TV series.

And btw, at the heart of this series is an old fashioned nior mystery.   I'm finding it pretty intriguing.

At least that's my take on it after one episode.
