I remember ads for the Hardy Boys back in the day but I never watched the show. I remember thinking later, weren't the Hardys supposed to be teenagers?

They were younger in the books and previous adaptations, sometimes as young as 12 and 13 I believe.  Cassidy was 18 when cast and I seem to recall his character being 18 as well but I’m not 100% sure.

In the 80s, which is when I read the books, they were around 16/17 years old.  Not sure if older versions would have had them younger.  The Bobbsey Twins (another Stratemeyer series) had the 12 year olds, so I would guess that the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew were always portrayed as teenagers.

Their Wikipedia entry looks to say they were always teenagers (at least 15).

I think it was on the Micky Mouse Club when they were around 12 or 13.  I've never seen it, though.
